I was under the influence of a weird cold for most of the time I was drawing this. That’s not an excuse, just an explanation.

Sometimes (…okay, a lot of times) I think it would be better to live in the future, when the immortal robot overlords have already solved the whole “human” problem, and we have all uploaded our brains into transhuman bodies and all problems are solved forever etc. But hey, I guess our period of history has its moments too, from time to time.

The comic title is from this song of the same name by Eluveitie. Of course, almost all my comics are named after song lyrics or titles but this one deserves a special shout out; I think the central theme is a really clever insight into how the passage of history gradually changes our world.

This comic is a bit out of date now, thankfully, but I think it will provide a useful prelude to some other comics that I will eventually be posting here.

Also, it’s not often I can recommend a metal song based on lyrical content, but “Beyond Me” is really worth a look. Mark Jansen writes the best songs about fear.

More Australians under the age of 35 die from suicide each year than from homicide and the road toll combined, and depression is one of the driving forces behind this statistic. Imagine what a different view of this issue we would have if the evening news reported each suicide in the same way they report fatal car accidents and murders.

To be fair, you could apply this same analogy to a lot of other things, too. Juggalos are just like the Scientology of faux-aggressive lifestyles.

If emotional dysfunction manifested as obviously as physical injuries, we would have a very different view of it. But unfortunately, it’s just ethereal enough for us to turn a blind eye.
